Description

The Astuccio is a small case that does one job properly. Pens, brushes, cables, a spare set of keys. Whatever lives loose in the bottom of your bag now lives here instead.

It is made from full grain Crazy Horse leather, a waxed hide that shrugs off scratches and turns them into character within a day. The zip runs the full length so the case opens flat, which matters more than it sounds when you are looking for one thing in a hurry.

It is the kind of object you stop noticing after a month, then miss immediately when you leave it behind. Small, unfussy, and made well enough that it will still be in your bag in ten years.

  • Full grain Crazy Horse leather
  • Heavy duty full length zip
  • Opens flat for easy access
  • Sized for pens, brushes, cables and small tools
  • Waxed finish that hides scratches

It opens all the way flat

It opens all the way flat

The zip runs the full length of the case, so it lies open like a book rather than gaping at one end. You can see everything at once instead of feeling for the one pen you want, which is the entire reason to own a case rather than a pouch.
The thing that ends the rummaging

The thing that ends the rummaging

Pens, a pencil, a cable, a spare key. Whatever currently lives loose in the bottom of your bag lives here instead. It takes up almost no room and it means the inside of your bag stops being a lucky dip.
Scratches disappear under a thumb

Scratches disappear under a thumb

Crazy Horse leather is waxed all the way through. Rub a scratch and the colour shifts back. Over a few months the case darkens unevenly where you hold it, and it starts looking like something you have had for years rather than something you bought.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pens does it hold?

Comfortably six to eight standard pens, or four or five fountain pens with room around them so nothing rubs.

Will it protect a fountain pen?

Yes. The leather is thick enough to take a knock and the pens sit apart from each other rather than knocking together.

Can I use it for makeup or cables?

Plenty of people do. It is a well made zip case, and brushes and cables sit in it just as happily as pens.

Will it scratch?

It will, and then it will stop looking scratched. The waxed finish means marks rub back out with a thumb.

Does it fit in a jacket pocket?

In a coat, yes. In a suit jacket it is a squeeze. It is really made to live in a bag.

What leather do you use?

Full grain leather, the top layer of the hide, left unsanded so the natural grain stays intact. Several pieces use Crazy Horse leather, a waxed full grain finish that scratches into a patina rather than out of one.

Will the leather change over time?

Yes, and that is the point. Full grain darkens, softens and develops a patina shaped by how you carry it. No two pieces age the same way.

How do I care for it?

Keep it dry, wipe it with a soft cloth, and condition it two or three times a year. Store it out of direct sunlight. Avoid soaking it, and if it does get wet let it dry at room temperature rather than near heat.

How do I choose the right size?

Each listing says what the piece is built to carry, including laptop sizes where they apply. Compare that against the bag you use now, since it is a more reliable guide than a size label. If you are between two options, message us with what you carry and we will tell you which one fits.

Is the leather treated or sealed?

Only lightly. Heavy sealing is what stops leather from ageing, so the surface is left open enough to absorb oils from your hands and darken over time. That does mean it is not waterproof. Keep it out of standing water, and if it does get wet let it dry at room temperature.

Will the colour match the photographs?

Closely, but not exactly. Full grain leather takes dye differently across the hide, so tone and grain shift slightly from piece to piece, and screens render colour differently again. Treat the photographs as an honest guide rather than a swatch. That variation is a property of real leather, not a fault.
