Description

The Consolato is a briefcase for people who actually carry things. Crazy horse leather, a structured body, and an interior laid out in compartments rather than one open cavity.

A laptop goes in its own padded section. Files, a notebook and a charger each have somewhere sensible to sit, so the bag opens flat and you can see what you have rather than digging. The top handle is stitched to take the weight of a full load.

It looks right in a meeting and it looks right on a train. Crazy horse leather is waxed through, so the scuffs it picks up on the way rub back out with a thumb and the bag improves rather than degrades.

  • Full grain Crazy horse leather
  • Padded laptop compartment
  • Multiple interior sections for files and accessories
  • Reinforced stitched top handle
  • Scuffs buff out by hand

Compartments, not one cavity

Compartments, not one cavity

A laptop has its own padded section. Files, a notebook and a charger each have somewhere sensible to sit. The bag opens flat so you can see what you have rather than digging, which matters more the more you carry.
It reads correctly in a meeting

It reads correctly in a meeting

Structured enough to walk into a room with, relaxed enough to carry on a train afterwards. The top handle is stitched to take a full load without the leather stretching at the anchor points, which is where cheaper briefcases fail first.
Scuffs rub out with a thumb

Scuffs rub out with a thumb

Crazy horse leather is waxed through, so a knock lightens the surface and then a thumb brings it back. Over a year the bag darkens where you hold it and softens at the corners. It improves rather than degrades, which is unusual for something carried daily.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size laptop does it take?

The padded section fits a 15 inch laptop with room around it. A 16 inch fits but sits snug.

Can I carry it on a shoulder?

Yes, the strap is removable and adjustable. The top handle is the primary carry and the strap is there for longer walks.

Is it stiff or soft?

Structured. It stands up on its own and protects what is inside, which is the point of a briefcase over a satchel.

How is it different from the Senato?

The Senato is the larger, more capacious carry. The Consolato is the tidier one, built around the laptop.

Does the leather need conditioning?

Two or three times a year. Crazy horse takes conditioner well and deepens in colour each time.

What leather do you use?

Full grain leather, the top layer of the hide, left unsanded so the natural grain stays intact. Several pieces use Crazy Horse leather, a waxed full grain finish that scratches into a patina rather than out of one.

Will the leather change over time?

Yes, and that is the point. Full grain darkens, softens and develops a patina shaped by how you carry it. No two pieces age the same way.

How do I care for it?

Keep it dry, wipe it with a soft cloth, and condition it two or three times a year. Store it out of direct sunlight. Avoid soaking it, and if it does get wet let it dry at room temperature rather than near heat.

How do I choose the right size?

Each listing says what the piece is built to carry, including laptop sizes where they apply. Compare that against the bag you use now, since it is a more reliable guide than a size label. If you are between two options, message us with what you carry and we will tell you which one fits.

Is the leather treated or sealed?

Only lightly. Heavy sealing is what stops leather from ageing, so the surface is left open enough to absorb oils from your hands and darken over time. That does mean it is not waterproof. Keep it out of standing water, and if it does get wet let it dry at room temperature.

Will the colour match the photographs?

Closely, but not exactly. Full grain leather takes dye differently across the hide, so tone and grain shift slightly from piece to piece, and screens render colour differently again. Treat the photographs as an honest guide rather than a swatch. That variation is a property of real leather, not a fault.
