Description

The Fermo is a camera pack that does not look like one. Full grain leather outside, protection inside, and none of the tactical black nylon that tells a street you are carrying a camera body and two lenses.

There is a quick access pocket on the side so you can reach the camera without taking the bag off, and a removable padded insert that holds your kit in place. Take the insert out and it becomes an ordinary backpack again.

Built for the walk between the shots. Long days, a city or a trail, and gear you would rather not put down on wet ground.

  • Handcrafted full grain leather
  • Removable padded camera insert
  • Side quick access pocket
  • Converts to a standard backpack without the insert
  • Discreet exterior with no camera branding

Padding where a camera needs it

Padding where a camera needs it

The camera section is padded on every face and split by dividers you can move, so a body and two lenses each sit in their own space rather than knocking together. Nothing rattles when you walk, which is the first thing a photographer notices about a bag.
Reach the camera without stopping

Reach the camera without stopping

Side access means you get a body out without taking the pack off or opening the main lid. That sounds minor until the light changes and you have four seconds to react.
Leather instead of nylon, on purpose

Leather instead of nylon, on purpose

Most camera bags are black nylon and look like camera bags. This one does not, which is useful when you would rather not advertise what you are carrying. It also ages, softens and darkens in a way nylon never will.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much kit does it hold?

A body with a lens attached plus two more lenses, with the dividers set the usual way. Move them and you can trade a lens slot for personal items.

Is there room for a laptop?

Yes, there is a padded sleeve behind the camera compartment for a 15 inch machine.

Are the dividers removable?

They are. Take them all out and it works as a normal daypack.

Will it protect gear in rain?

The leather sheds light rain and the flap covers the opening, but it is not a waterproof bag. In a downpour, cover it.

Is it comfortable when loaded?

The straps are padded and set wide. A full camera kit is heavy in any bag, and this one spreads it properly.

What leather do you use?

Full grain leather, the top layer of the hide, left unsanded so the natural grain stays intact. Several pieces use Crazy Horse leather, a waxed full grain finish that scratches into a patina rather than out of one.

Will the leather change over time?

Yes, and that is the point. Full grain darkens, softens and develops a patina shaped by how you carry it. No two pieces age the same way.

How do I care for it?

Keep it dry, wipe it with a soft cloth, and condition it two or three times a year. Store it out of direct sunlight. Avoid soaking it, and if it does get wet let it dry at room temperature rather than near heat.

How do I choose the right size?

Each listing says what the piece is built to carry, including laptop sizes where they apply. Compare that against the bag you use now, since it is a more reliable guide than a size label. If you are between two options, message us with what you carry and we will tell you which one fits.

Is the leather treated or sealed?

Only lightly. Heavy sealing is what stops leather from ageing, so the surface is left open enough to absorb oils from your hands and darken over time. That does mean it is not waterproof. Keep it out of standing water, and if it does get wet let it dry at room temperature.

Will the colour match the photographs?

Closely, but not exactly. Full grain leather takes dye differently across the hide, so tone and grain shift slightly from piece to piece, and screens render colour differently again. Treat the photographs as an honest guide rather than a swatch. That variation is a property of real leather, not a fault.
