Description

The Penna is a full grain leather case for pens, built by hand with close stitching and finished edges. It is small, and the making is visible everywhere on it.

It protects fountain pens, pencils and markers from each other and from everything else in a bag. It also works for brushes or anything narrow you would rather not have rolling loose.

There is a case for owning one properly made small object. This is it. It costs less than the pen it protects and will outlast it comfortably.

  • Full grain leather
  • Handmade with close stitching and finished edges
  • Protects fountain pens, pencils and markers
  • Also suits brushes and narrow tools
  • Compact enough for any bag

Pens should not touch

Pens should not touch

The reason a pen case exists is to stop nibs and barrels knocking together. This one keeps each pen in its own space with a lining soft enough that nothing gets scratched by the case itself.
For the pens you care about

For the pens you care about

Sized generously enough for fountain pens rather than only slim ballpoints, which is what most cases quietly assume. If you own one good pen, this is where it should live.
It ages faster than you expect

It ages faster than you expect

A pen case gets picked up several times a day and lives in a bag the rest of the time. That is a lot of contact for a small object, and it shows within weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pens does it hold?

The listing gives the exact count. Broadly, a handful rather than a collection.

Will a fountain pen fit?

Yes, it is sized with fountain pens in mind rather than only slim ballpoints.

Is the interior lined?

Yes, softly, so nibs and barrels are not resting against bare leather.

Can I carry it loose in a bag?

That is what it is for. The leather is thick enough to take being knocked about in a bag.

How is it different from the Astuccio?

The Astuccio is a zip case that opens flat. The Penna is the roll or fold design.

What leather do you use?

Full grain leather, the top layer of the hide, left unsanded so the natural grain stays intact. Several pieces use Crazy Horse leather, a waxed full grain finish that scratches into a patina rather than out of one.

Will the leather change over time?

Yes, and that is the point. Full grain darkens, softens and develops a patina shaped by how you carry it. No two pieces age the same way.

How do I care for it?

Keep it dry, wipe it with a soft cloth, and condition it two or three times a year. Store it out of direct sunlight. Avoid soaking it, and if it does get wet let it dry at room temperature rather than near heat.

How do I choose the right size?

Each listing says what the piece is built to carry, including laptop sizes where they apply. Compare that against the bag you use now, since it is a more reliable guide than a size label. If you are between two options, message us with what you carry and we will tell you which one fits.

Is the leather treated or sealed?

Only lightly. Heavy sealing is what stops leather from ageing, so the surface is left open enough to absorb oils from your hands and darken over time. That does mean it is not waterproof. Keep it out of standing water, and if it does get wet let it dry at room temperature.

Will the colour match the photographs?

Closely, but not exactly. Full grain leather takes dye differently across the hide, so tone and grain shift slightly from piece to piece, and screens render colour differently again. Treat the photographs as an honest guide rather than a swatch. That variation is a property of real leather, not a fault.
