Description

The Valdo is the rugged everyday backpack. Rustic finish, large capacity, and a tiered pocket layout that makes the whole bag reachable without unpacking it.

Laptops, notebooks and the rest of a working day all fit, with the layers arranged so the things you need most often are nearest the top. It is a practical solution to the deep hole problem most large backpacks have.

It is built for support rather than for looks, and ends up looking good anyway. That is usually the order these things happen in.

  • High grade full grain leather, rustic finish
  • Large capacity main compartment
  • Tiered pocket layout for accessibility
  • Fits laptops and notebooks
  • Weight bearing straps and back panel

Built around the flap

Built around the flap

Flap over drawstring, two buckles, done. Nothing to break, nothing to jam, and enough overlap that light rain runs off rather than in. It is the shape that has outlasted every backpack trend of the last century.
The interior is deliberately simple

The interior is deliberately simple

A sleeve for a laptop or a notebook and one zip pocket for the things you do not want loose. Everything else is one space, which is faster to pack and faster to find things in than a bag full of compartments.
The finish does the ageing

The finish does the ageing

Waxed full grain darkens where hands go and lightens where it is knocked, then rubs back. Within months the pattern is unmistakably yours, and it keeps developing for years after that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a laptop sleeve?

Yes, though the padding is light. Use a case if you are hard on machines.

Do the buckles slow you down?

One buckle gets you in. Both come off only when you are unpacking properly.

Is it a full day bag?

Yes. Laptop, jacket, notebook, lunch.

Will scratches show?

They will and then they will not. The waxed finish means marks rub back out.

How is it different from the Ravello and Lucerra?

All three share the shape. The Ravello is plainest, the Lucerra has the front pocket, the Valdo sits between them with the interior zip pocket.

What leather do you use?

Full grain leather, the top layer of the hide, left unsanded so the natural grain stays intact. Several pieces use Crazy Horse leather, a waxed full grain finish that scratches into a patina rather than out of one.

Will the leather change over time?

Yes, and that is the point. Full grain darkens, softens and develops a patina shaped by how you carry it. No two pieces age the same way.

How do I care for it?

Keep it dry, wipe it with a soft cloth, and condition it two or three times a year. Store it out of direct sunlight. Avoid soaking it, and if it does get wet let it dry at room temperature rather than near heat.

How do I choose the right size?

Each listing says what the piece is built to carry, including laptop sizes where they apply. Compare that against the bag you use now, since it is a more reliable guide than a size label. If you are between two options, message us with what you carry and we will tell you which one fits.

Is the leather treated or sealed?

Only lightly. Heavy sealing is what stops leather from ageing, so the surface is left open enough to absorb oils from your hands and darken over time. That does mean it is not waterproof. Keep it out of standing water, and if it does get wet let it dry at room temperature.

Will the colour match the photographs?

Closely, but not exactly. Full grain leather takes dye differently across the hide, so tone and grain shift slightly from piece to piece, and screens render colour differently again. Treat the photographs as an honest guide rather than a swatch. That variation is a property of real leather, not a fault.
